Everybody Knows- Leonard Cohen

I'm pretty shaky about how to order most of this, but this song definitely takes a place of honor up first because I distinctly remember listening to it VERY early in her design process and thinking how cool her walking with her big boots and cane would be to this kind of beat.
I try to depict Eighteen as someone who's hopeful, at the end of the day, but her persistent belief in Good is connected to rather sober views about its fragile place in a universe that's far from universally hospitable.
She's seen a lot of shit, and the bad doesn't invalidate the good but it sure as heck stops being Surprising at some point- in fact, it's expected. The political cynicsm of this song is secondary to its description of that vague feeling of weariness at impending doom, the experience of living through a story enough times to Been There, Done That its ending. Doesn't make it less worth telling.
As with many songs in playlists of this OCverse (one day there'll be links here), allusions to infidelity can be adjusted to, like, being about killing people for a fairly accurate 18Missy2 Read. She's pretty certain his justifications make sense to him- and she's not impressed, or even interested. It's not up to her to have an opinion or desire.

Honestly, Almost self explanatory. I wanted to have some stuff with less elaborate words, to suit her nature- I like the directness of sentences in this one, and it's a surprise banger in some ways. Part of what I want to explore with the character is a more explicit return to the Cosmic Hobo archetype and to that experience of. Not having an aura of authority, not even some charisma that lets you Get By, but honestly moving through the world as an ancient and wise entity that is read and treated like a dirty, poor, visibly unwell little old lady from nowhere. She experiences a lot of alienation and honestly sometimes spirals about it to the point of becoming odder and more offputting in her nervousenss, and it's.... sad.
Part of the reason she warms up to Missy2 sooner than she might've liked to is because he's the first person in a while to Not be avoiding looking at her. She doesn't like being looked at- but she likes being visibly ignored and turned away from even less.
Be Nice To Me- The Front Bottoms

Her definitive song, and my top song of 2024 for that reason. BURNOUT METAPHOR! Losing her ability to do things Easily and Automatically.... And the idea of Changing- the thing with getting consumed by the Mythological Role of the Doctor as a Wise And All-Powerful Figure Of Ultimate Goodness, than any change from the status quo must be for the worse, right? Especially since the Valeyard is seemingly motivated by an issue with his regenerations, which aligns with her medical condition. She's preoccupied with the idea of staying The Doctor.
So - she can describe the experience of wanting to break free of the confines of the Role / preformence and live like a Real Person convincingly enough to Truly Get Through to Missy2. But she's DEEPLY resistant to the idea of applying that to herself. Of course he should change, he's so evil he can only become Better, even if not truly Good; And her acceptance and sympathy for That are already sore subjects for her. This framework is as deeply self righteous and aggrendizing as it is self destructive, and Missy2 does Not enjoy the judgemental aspects of it very much- but he's also charmed by the idea of being Better Than Her at this- It's all very. It all comes together with her Avoidant Tendencies and her real need and draw to his support to create this weird Hot-And-Cold toxicity that the song catches very well- feeling broken and possibly Evil and tied together in a broken evil way.

Again- a rather self explanatory succint one, on the same note of being exhausted & losing her grip on the whole, natural self identity thing and being disorientated about it, trying to cling to Something- see chorus. The music's dreamy quality also suits her in my opinion- most of her playlist is Rock leaning, and it's not Wrong, but I'd have a bit more of this if I knew what.
I seem to be doing Missy2 notes on the second paragraph, so- It does work a bit better if you, like me, mishear the lyrics of the second verse as "fading into beautiful lies". Not only is this not going to last, it's because he can't be Expected to really mean it, right.
